Summer time!

Well summer has definitely arrived here in the Willamette Valley and we are in the middle of a little heat wave right now! HOT HOT HOT weather! This is my least favorite time of year as I’m not a huge fan of the heat, but there are still some fun and exciting things going on and things to look forward to over the next few months.

So what have we been up to? Let’s start with Liam.

About six weeks ago, Liam helped David outside with some prep work before we planted grass (and watered it diligently for two weeks before realizing it was a bad batch of seed, argh!). We ended up putting sod down eventually and it looks great now, but that is not the point ๐Ÿ™‚ Liam was so sweet out there with his little tiny rake helping his dad.

And here he was at his dental checkup. I love seeing how tiny kids look in those dentist chairs ๐Ÿ™‚ He did great and had no cavities but we did learn he has a crossbite so orthodontia may be in our future in a few years. Hurray… It’s fun to see how much more mature he was at this checkup versus a year ago. Five is a great age!

Here’s Liam & Lauren on the first “poolday” of the year a few weeks back, too. Liam just finished a Vacation Bible School camp last week and was so brave, going in there fearlessly without knowing anyone else. He had a blast! He is also doing swimming lessons and has made a good little buddy in his class who is almost the exact same age, so he loves hanging out with him in class. He starts KINDERGARTEN in September!! ACK! I can hardly believe he is old enough but alas the time has come. I know he will do great but it will definitely be a big change for our household.
And as for Lauren…

Lauren’s personality continues to blossom. She is incredibly verbal which is nice because she can ALWAYS tell us what she wants (a blessing and a curse, haha!). Every time Nolan gets up from a nap, Lauren is there to great him with a hug and says, “NOLAN!! My little buddy.” ๐Ÿ™‚ She turns 3 in September but it feels like she has been 3 for a long time already with how mature and expressive she can be. She shows a lot of interest in big brother Liam’s “Bob Books” and I wouldn’t be surprised if she will be an early reader.

She is also VERY silly sometimes. In this picture collage, you can see how well she imitated just about every facial expression I made! Haha, she is a little ham for sure.

Lauren still LOVES having pictures taken of whatever hairstyle she has any given day. Total girl! She is our feminine influence sandwiched between two boys and we cherish her girly style.

And heeeeeere’s Nolan!

Nolan is an all star crawler and cruiser now. He pulls himself up on ANYTHING (including just bare walls) and thinks he is a lot older than he really is (he’s 7.5 months, for the record). I think he’s desperately trying to catch up with his siblings!

He also recently got his first two teeth on the bottom so here he is with his first TOOTHBRUSH! ๐Ÿ™‚ He is pretty excited about it.

He is also getting much more interested in eating food. He still has a pretty active gag reflex when I serve him purees at times, so I do a little of that but mostly just let him practice feeding himself little puffs, green beans and such. (In the above picture, he was munching on some sweet potato puffs). Nolan takes 3 naps a day and they average around 45 minutes apiece. Occasionally he’ll surprise me and throw a longer one in there for kicks, but overall he is a pretty minimal sleeper like my other kids have both been. He still wakes up a few times a night to eat and that’s okay with me because I know he will grow out of it in time. Nolan can be ridiculously sweet and also very high maintenance at times but I guess that is the case with most babies. He LOVES to have David carry him around when he gets home from work and has him wrapped around his finger. It’s a lot of work packing around a 20-something pound baby so he’s lucky David obliges him ๐Ÿ™‚

We have a four-day weekend coming up this week (David’s taking an extra day off on Friday after the holiday), so we’re looking forward to some nice relaxation and it’s supposed to cool down to about the high 70’s by then, so maybe we’ll see some of you out enjoying the lovely weather! Enjoy your summer! ๐Ÿ™‚
